After waking up from appendix surgery, the patient (who was a lawyer) noticed the curtains were drawn. He was curious because he heard sirens and noticed the glow of flashing red lights through the shades.
"Why did you close the curtains?, he asked.
"Well," the nurse replied, "the building across the street is onfire, and the flames would be visible from your bed. We didn't want you to wake up and think that you did not survive the surgery."
